Fantasy Genre
The genre of film that emphasizes the wonders of imagination. Stories feature speculative, hypothetical or alternate histories outside the realm of reality, often based on mythical, legendary, magical, supernatural, alien civilizations, parallel or other unreal worlds; and frequently employing innovative visual effects. Feature Film
A full-length motion picture greater than 70 minutes in running time, usually 90-120 minutes.

Film Critic Or Film Reviewer
A person who publishes or broadcasts film reviews from either an artistic or an entertainment point of view. Such reviews frequently discuss a film's content and characters as well as critique the performances, camera work, directing, editing, production and script. Film critics are usually more philosophical and theoretical than film reviewers.

Film Festival Or "fest"
An event which showcases motion pictures to restricted audiences where new films can be premiered, exhibited, judged, reviewed and purchased for distribution deals. The more prominent festivals include Berlin, Cannes, Montreal, Toronto, Sundance, Telluride and Venice.

Film Franchise
A brand name film story or character series that is not necessarily linked to a specific actor.

Filmmakers
A term that generally refers to creatives who have a significant degree of control over the creation of a film: directors, producers, stars, screenwriters and hyphenates. (See creatives, hyphenate)

Flop Or "floppola"
A box office failure. (See box office performance benchmarks)

Footprint
For Marquee Stars, the relative level of active audience exposure to a marquee persona’s cinematic work product.

Foreign Film
A feature-length motion picture normally produced outside the United States in a predominantly non-English language.

Foreign Sales Agency Deal
A distribution arrangement in which an outside sales company functions as the exclusive foreign sales representative for a motion picture in exchange for a negotiated commission, usually 15-25%, on gross sales collected. The sales company also will be allowed contractually defined deductions for expenses.

Four Ps Of Marketing
A universally recognized marketing typology developed by Dr. E. Jerome McCarthy. The Four Ps include: product, price, promotion, placement (distribution).
