Package Calculator

download-full-picture-01The Package Appraisal Calculator enables you to generate your own value analysis.  Just enter the key valuations from the Marquee Appraisal Guide, and the calculator will anticipate the relative box office strength of different marquee combinations. The calculator does not, however, predict actual revenue performance (although within our testing sample, the calculator correctly forecast 70% of box office outcomes within a reasonable margin of error).  The calculator’s output figures should be regarded as a proximal guide and should not be solely determinative for any investment decision.  Our purpose is to provide a frame of reference useful throughout the content community for marquee-related talent decisions.

Go to the Calculator

1

Enter your project title.

2You must identify your project’s likely range of audience appeal, either Mainstream or Specialty & Genre.  Made-for-video projects should use Specialty & Genre.

3Anticipate the number of theatrical screens for your project’s opening. (If you cannot anticipate the number of screens, the calculator will generate a default expectation.) The below chart may help:

4Enter your project’s marquee personas and their respective appraisal values from the Appraisal Guide.   The Marquee Appraisal Guide by Persona is designed for ease of input.

  • You may work selectively with just those sections of the calculator that interest you: On-Camera Talent, Off-Camera Talent, Anchors, Support, Directors, Screenwriters, Producers, Opening Week Gross, World Gross, Domestic Gross or Foreign Gross.
  • You may also work organically, incorporating all on-camera and off-camera elements.
  • Use the A-Lists for Mainstream projects and the B-Lists for Specialty & Genre projects.
  • The order in which you list the personas is important. Be sure to list anchors and support players in the billing order that will be perceived by the audience … not necessarily as specified by the contractual billing block.
  • For sequels, the Franchise/Character is always regarded as the 1st position anchor (i.e. Harry Potter, Fantastic Four, Night at the Museum).
  • For Mainstream projects with B-List anchors or support, use their B-List appraisals.
  • For Specialty & Genre projects with A-List anchors or support, discount their A-List appraisal values according to the corresponding B-List proxy values in the below chart:

For Marquee personas not included in the Appraisal Guide, or for territorial appraisals, you may commission a custom Statistical Diagnostic Report.
